Spanish Police Arrest 4 for Trying to Sell Fake Picasso
The Spanish police arrest 4 individuals yesterday, including a reputable antiquarian in Madrid, for attempting to sell a fake Picasso.
The counterfeit painting, which they valued at €1.2 million ($1.5 million), carried a forged signature of Picasso’s and was accompanied by forged documents proclaiming its authenticity, including a signature by Paloma Picasso, the famed jewelry designer and daughter of the deceased artist.
The counterfeit work was attempting to portray itself as The Bust of Jeune Garcon (1964), a work widely accepted to be the authentic version. It carries official certification by Maya Widmaier, the oldest-living descendent of Picasso.
